Day 61 of 117 on our “Go West, Young Man” Two Lane Adventure – Sunday 8/26/18

Today is the day we are doing our white water rafting on the Middle Fork of Flathead’s rapids. We were all getting nervous about this one … thinking what did we get ourselves into!

The Glacier Raft Company came to the West Glacier KOA to pick us up. They dropped us off at their office in the beginning of Going-to-the-Sun road. As we were waiting at their office, people in our group were renting wet suits, wet shoes, eye glass straps and waterproof jackets. They wheeled out two wagons of yellow helmets and some of us were sizing them for us.

Our wagon master came out and said we did not need those. Some of us were like hhmmmmm … I want my melon protected! While we waited, Rod played “caption this picture” and selected different caravaneers. Can you caption these outfits?

Then the guides came out and said the tour group that signed up for the scenic float, get on that bus … scenic float? I thought we were going to go white water rafting! A scenic float? I left my camera at the RV, because we were going white water rafting … not floating! Oh well, someone might take pictures! Glad we did not spend money on a wet suit!

We boarded a big yellow school bus and started down to our debarkation point. The group was 21 members of the Yankee Caravan and a family of 4, a Mom, a Dad, a 3-year old daughter and an 18-month old son. Oh, someone is going to have some fun!

We arrived at the debarkation point and everyone tried to figure out our life jackets … I mean personal floatation devices. It was like fitting 10 pounds of stuff in 5 pound bags! LOL … Our wagon master broke us up into groups.

But first, group photo … don’t we look like a motley crew?

We were all issued a paddle, except the 2 kids. We boarded our respective rafts and began our scenic float down the river. We did have to paddle now and then.

We saw one eagle perched in a tree, looking stately over the river. No, other wild life. We did pass a few fly fisherman and fisherwoman. We also saw some awesome scenery, but no camera to prove it!

Fast forward to the end of the float. We have turned the corner and are moving toward the end of our trip.

Here we are arriving at the point of debarkation and trying very hard to be graceful as we exit the rafts!

We had a late lunch or early dinner of Yankee pizza, which is pizza that Yankee RV Tours provided for us!

Yes, you can tell we were hungry and cold!

Some of the caravanners are colder than others!

We had our road log review after the pizza and then everyone was on their own, until tomorrow mornings departure.

Thanks to Willard for sharing his pictures with me.
