Day 85 of 117 on our “Go West, Young Man” Two Lane Adventure – Wednesday 9/19/18

We had an easy day today … there were several housekeeping items we needed to take care of … But first, let me tell you about our neighbor, the Colorado River. It starts high in the Rocky Mountains in central Colorado, the Colorado River runs through the Grand Valley, passing the towns of Palisade, Grand Junction, and Fruita on its way to the Gulf of California. After the mighty river exits Debeque Canyon from the east, it ebbs and flows west along the southern edge of the valley, passing boat launches and riverside ponds, before dropping into a series of deep canyons. The Colorado River Corridor, offering loads of fun for rafters, kayakers, canoeists, and stand-up paddlers, is an ideal place to visit during the warmer weather days in the valley. Our campground is located across from the James M. Robb-Colorado River State Park, a great place to get into the river.

We need to get the RV washed. I found a self-serve truck wash, in Grand Junction and we wanted to check it out. It was OK and it is on our way to Parachute tomorrow, but Charlie is thinking about purchasing the “wash permit” at the campground and do it there.

We also found a Winnebago service dealer in Grand Junction. We stopped by there and asked about our slide issue. The “service writer” we spoke to, was not very helpful. We have a work around for now, that allows us to open the slide and not damage the linoleum any more. I am thinking about writing to Winnebago and sending the pictures I took. I am thinking that a screw coming out from a carpet covered block that supports the slide is a manufacturers issue and should be covered under warranty.

I had a grocery list, so we stopped and picked up the few items that we needed. I am still looking for my Smucker’s Sugar-free Syrup. I have not been able to find it since I ran out before we started our Northwest Caravan. I guess, it is an Eastern US item!

We did buy the wash permit and washed the rig ourselves at the campground. Oh, she looks so good when she is clean! We had an excellent pull thru site here for our 3 nights. Our fourth night, which actually was out first night, we had a W/E back in site. Then we moved to this site. It was all gravel and they recently planted trees, when they grow up a little, they will be awesome!

Dinner with Charlie’s cousin, Frankie, one last time. Davene had another commitment, and could not join us. We ended up at Golden Corral. We had a good meal and a great time visiting. Frankie took us around Grand Junction a bit and showed us what has changed since Charlie lived in the area. It has been a great time in Fruita, but tomorrow we have a big move of 44 miles to Parachute!
