Our last sunrise in Yermo was spectacular! I took a walk and captured this shot across some old wagons they had in the tent camping area.
We caravanned from Barstow / Calico KOA to Bonelli Bluffs in San Dimas.
Just outside of Barstow, we had a herd of sports cars pass us, on the Interstate, like we were standing still. There were Lamborghinis, Corvettes, Porsches and others that I could not identify!
In Victorville, there was cute dinosaur. The concrete dinosaur stands next to the former Queens's Motel. In March of 2017, the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino purchased the former Queen’s Motel, originally comprised of 60-units, for the purpose of converting the building into a permanent supportive housing complex for the chronic homeless. The City partnered with HACSB by providing financial assistance in the form of a loan. The building, now named Desert Haven, has been rehabilitated and converted into a 31-unit single or double occupancy apartment complex. HACSB will make the units affordable through the use of housing vouchers, with rent not to exceed 30% of a resident’s adjusted gross income.
I liked the slogan on this Victorville Water tower. Of course, my philosophy is … if you have to water it to keep it alive, don’t plant it!
We skirted the
San Bernardino National Forest.
Cajon Summit 4,260 feet in elevation. It is set high between the San Bernardino Mountains and the San Gabriel Mountains. The pass was created by the movements of the San Andreas Fault. You quickly descend to about 2,000 feet after you crest at the summit.
Here was our first view of the California traffic. No reason for this delay, other than lots of cars and trucks on the highway.
I saw this pinkish red color on the mountains. At first I tried to figure out what it was, then it dawned on me. It’s fire retardant, we must be close to where they have been airdropping retardant. Yikes, that is close!
After we rounded the bend, we could see just how close the fire was! Fire is a fierce foe. You can see all of the damage it did, but them in the center of the blackened remains there is a home and green landscape.
This was some of the most harrowing driving. These Southern California drivers are bold and fearless!
We pulled off on the park road to unhook our tow cars and a group of cyclist rode by.
We arrived at Bonelli Bluffs, our last home on this caravan. Bonelli Bluffs is much more than an RV park. It is located just 45 minutes east of Los Angeles at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains but feels worlds away from the big city.
The resort has over 500 sites and is surrounded by majestic mountain views, lush greenery, meticulous landscaping, and many amenities. We had green grass! It has been more than 6 campgrounds ago, since we have had real grass on our sites!
According to our road log, we were set to go to Teatro Martini Dinner Cabaret Show in Buena Park California. We had a bus pick us up and off we go! Some of us googled the event and we read this … Teatro Martini's sizzling dinner spectacular features an edgy combination of cabaret, comedy, music and cirque-style aerials and acrobatics. The Teatro Martini experience comes complete with a four-course meal. As you dine on your gourmet entree, you'll be captivated by an energetic show of non-stop comedy, daring acrobatic acts, live music and more. Teatro Martini's performers come from across the globe to provide you with a captivating and tantalizing getaway from the ordinary.
When we arrived, we were escorted into a Pirates Show that was already underway. We figured that they were seating us while this show ended. When they started to serve us meals, we knew that something was amiss … But, we all enjoyed the music and entertainment, even though, we were a bit confused.
We quickly learned that this was the show we were seeing … Helen kept laughing, so we thought she was really enjoying the show. Afterwards, we learned that she was so upset, it was either laugh or cry … so she laughed! All of the caravanners were good sports and we had a good time anyway! It will be an event that we can laugh about for years to come and it is an “inside joke” that can only be appreciated by the caravanners from the 2021 Route 66 caravan!
The bus took
us back to the campsite and we enjoyed a beautiful evening outside!
