September 6th, 2021 … Summer of Fun continues! Day Trip to Phoenix!

Today Don & Linda needed a down day, so we departed from Cottonwood and drove to Phoenix to see Maddison. Tim drove us down in the Jeep. I have to say Max is a great dog, he rode in the back of the Jeep the whole way down to Phoenix.

The underpasses are very artistically decorated. This one is for you Cathy Carrick, I know you have been checking out all the underpass art on this trip!

No image of America’s southwest is more recognizable than the Saguaro cactus. Traveling south from Cottonwood, AZ on I-17.  I don’t see any for the first portion of the drive. However, shortly after Sunset Point rest stop the large cacti start to dot the landscape. Some interesting facts about these prickly giants! A saguaro’s arms usually begin to grow only after it is about 15’ tall and around 75 years old. They can have many arms. A typical saguaro can live between 100-200 years. A full-grown saguaro can reach 40 feet tall. A fully-grown saguaro can weigh several tons due to the water it stores. The cactus bloom, Arizona’s state flower, only appear on the saguaro when the cactus is 35 years old.

We arrived
at the house and spent some time visiting with Madissen, Tim and Crystal. Of course, there was plenty of playing with Max and his brother Winslow. It has been several years since we have seen Madissen. It was great to see her blooming and growing. She could not come to Cottonwood, because she works 2 jobs and only has Monday off. Hence, the reason we came down here!

There is a picture from today with her dog, Winslow, and then the last time we saw her. When we went ice skating! She has grown into a beautiful young woman!

We enjoyed lunch at The Cheesecake Factory. It was a late lunch, so none of us will need to cook dinner. Which is good, because Crystal is staying in Phoenix (she had to work tomorrow) and neither her or Madissen cook much! Their chef, Tim, is heading back to Cottonwood with us!

I had the Spicy Cashew Chicken, Charlie had Chicken Broccoli Pasta … yes, I know it has a vegetable in it … don’t tell him!

Our drive back was uneventful, however it was extremely busy heading south on I-17! Must be everyone stayed until the last minute before their check-out times!

It was a beautiful sunset, at our campsite.

Tomorrow we have an adventure to National Monuments with Don & Linda and Tim!
