Day 20 of our 2025 RVing Adventure with Historical & Musical Interludes

On day 20 of our 2025 summer adventure we left Dixie Caverns in Salem VA. We got back on I-81 and headed south.

Our morning was overcast and sometimes drizzling. The fog hung near the tops of the mountains as we started out.

It was a great deal of up and down as we drove further South.  I-81 travels through 6 states: New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and Tennessee. I-81 runs for 325 miles, making the portion in Virginia longer than any other state's portion of the route.

You see some of the most interesting things on the road! We saw this high-low trailer and the vehicle towing it was so small, we could not even see it! We could see the tires, but even when they came around a curve, even Milt & Gaby and Gary & Sheryl could not see the vehicle.

We had a few "Boozefighters" bikers pass us, a couple of times. We thought they were police officers, because some of their pants looked like the motorcycle police that passed us ahead of them. The Boozefighters Motorcycle Club is a motorcycle club with a rich history, particularly in the early days of the outlaw biker culture. Founded in 1946 by World War II veterans in Los Angeles, the club is known for its strong sense of brotherhood, love of motorcycles, and a reputation for being a "drinking club with a motorcycle problem."

While known for their spirited lifestyle and association with the early days of outlaw biker culture, the Boozefighters themselves have stated they are not an outlaw club and respect the rights of other motorcycle clubs.  The Boozefighters are known to participate in charitable activities, including raising money for veterans, children, and the poor.

Along a section of I-81 we saw the remnants of two tractor trailer accidents within 5 miles of each other. Both were in the grassy median. I could not get a picture of the first one, but here is the second one. It certainly does not look like it was survivable. But, the way we watched some of these big rigs drive, it is not a surprise that there are deadly accidents.

We crossed into Tennessee and are a few miles closer to our destination for the next two weeks.

We stopped for our final fuel stop about 35 miles from our campground. This is what I love about Charlie the most. Gary got the long windshield cleaner out and went to get paper towels, before he got back, Charlie walked by and started cleaning the windshield. These two men work so well together!

We arrived at Creekside RV Park and were greeted by Brian & Lisa, from our community in Zephyrhills! We got set up and enjoyed visiting with them and our fellow travelers.

Stay tuned for more Two Lane Adventures!
