Day 51 of our 2025 RVing Adventure with Historical & Musical Interludes

It's Saturday June 21st, day 51 of our 2025 summer adventure. I took advantage of the one way traffic on the main road in front of the campground and used the "closed" lane for part of my walk today. It was very nice to walk on a flat surface, no gravel! We are heading over to "get in line" at the fairgrounds for our "preferred" spot at this festival.

There was a very cool container home at the Bellefonte Campground. I am not sure if it was one of their unique rentals or it is a seasonal home for someone. It makes me want to have a container home somewhere!

Besides the container home, there are several other rentals are very unique too!

We had a "long" travel day today, we went 13 miles. It is the second shortest travel distance we had this trip. The shortest was the 7/10 of a mile from Creekside RV to Kings Holly Haven campground in Pigeon Forge.

We did have to go up and over the summit of the Nittany Mountains. The summit is probably Centre County’s most famous geographical feature.  A ridge named Nittany Mountain first appeared on William Scull’s map of colonial Pennsylvania in 1770. However, the name was already known to the surveyors who ventured into this frontier area to establish boundaries when Pennsylvania was buying land from the Iroquois Indians in the 1750s. It is thought that “Nittany” derives from a Native American place name — Nekti-Attin.  The most accepted translation is “single mountain.” Whether it is of Shawnee, Iroquois, or Lenape origins is unclear.

We arrived 2 hours before they were going to start parking campers and we were 12th in line. Some people take "getting the perfect camping spot" very seriously! Charlie and I headed over, because we had to be out of the campground we were staying in. No one really wants the spot we like, because it is too far away from everything. But, we love it, we get shade and quiet, when we want it! This festival is a bit different. We pay Larry Efaw for the tickets to the festival, but we pay the camping when we arrive to the Centre County Grange Fairgrounds.

We got all set up and had a relaxing afternoon. Charlie even got his gravity chair out! Do you see why we love this spot?

We enjoyed a simple supper of soup and chili at a local place,
Earlystown Diner. While we were there, a guy came up and said "what are you doing here?" I said "going to the festival, what about you?" He said "the same." He left and Charlie said "who is that?" I said someone who knows us... we figured it had to be someone from our bluegrass circles. I said "Maybe we know him through Jay Busch?" Charlie said "I am going to find out." He comes back and says "They help Ernie & Debbie Evans." When we left, we stopped by their table and she looked very familiar. It is Bill and Sandy Cox. They are from Ohio and Bill used to play with Remington Ryde. When we got home, I did a Facebook search and I saw that Bill is friends with Jay Busch on Facebook. Small world!

Stay tuned for more Two Lane Adventures!
