Day Eighty-Eight to Ninety-Three - A Summer of Bluegrass, Camping and Friends - Wednesday 7/24/2024 - Monday 7/29/2024

Wednesday July 24th was our last morning in the Livonia NY area.

Wednesday morning was my 206th walk of 2024. It was 71° at 7:30 AM for my last walk in 14487. It is probably a good thing we are heading south today. Fall in NY is just around the corner!

That morning included appointments and breakfast with the "fair breakfast gang." Unfortunately, several of the founding members have passed and some are getting older and had doctor appointments this morning. Others have moved away, but we enjoyed our time with Jane, Dick & Deb. Jane is the treasurer for the fair and has been for too many years to count. She is the one who is awake the latest on the fairgrounds during the week of the fair! Deb has been involved in the fair since we contracted our beer purchases through West Beer. West Beer is no more and we use Lake Beverage. But the "young pup" that Bud West and Debbie trained, Jeff Dodsworth is still a fixture at the fair! Dick was a plumber by trade and he did anything for the fair, before the week of the fair. The week of the fair, you will not find Dick there! The exception to that was when his grandson was a youngster, he had him over there a few times! Now Dick is one of the mowers of the many acres on the fairgrounds.

We said our tearful "see ya laters" to Jimmy when we returned from breakfast. He stopped at the house on one of his many trips past it on his various runs for the farm. It's a short run to Cohocton, so we did not hook up the car.

Our next stop on our 2024 summer adventure is Charlie's brother, Donny, and his wife Donna's house. It was a short 20-miles from our last stop.

We have a nice gravel site here. We will be here for the next week, helping Donny with a few projects and enjoying their company.

Thursday morning July 25th was my 207th walk of 2024. It was 61° at 7 AM with a slight breeze. A beautiful morning for a walk.

As I passed a winter wheat field. I saw the head of one or two deer pop up.

But as I kept walking I guess I spooked all of them! There was 7 or 8 that started out of that little gully across the wheat field towards the woods!

We made a trip to Canandaigua to go to Ollies Bargain Outlet. I have eliminated creamer from my coffee, but I needed some of my sugar-free flavorings. Ollies has the best price! Donna is always up for a shopping trip!

The city of Canandaigua was at one time a Seneca village populated by inhabitants who fled the nearby Seneca village of Ganondagan, which was destroyed by the French in 1687. Settlers of European background started moving into the region in the late 1780s following the Phelps & Gorham Purchase. The Treaty of Canandaigua was signed here in 1794, establishing clearer land boundaries and more peaceful relations between citizens of the new country and the six nations of the Iroquois Confederacy.

Today, the scenic community of Canandaigua is known as “The Chosen Spot,” a Native American translation that holds true today. Nestled on the north end of Canandaigua Lake, the town is historic and scenic with a variety of locally-owned shops, galleries, restaurants, and places to stay. There are plenty of outdoor spaces to rest and relax, with beautiful Canandaigua Lake providing a stunning place to enjoy swimming, boating, and fishing.

When we got home Charlie and Donny worked on the water heater. Donna and I ran to the hardware store for parts. That was our contribution to the project!

Friday morning July 26th was my 208th walk of 2024. It was a brisk 55° at 7 AM with the promise of a sunny day! Donny met me on the road with 6/10 of a mile to go. Which means he walked over a mile! I love the old barns you see in this area.

Donna & Donny had appointments in the morning, so in the early afternoon we headed up to Strong Memorial Hospital to see Joyce. You always must take a picture of where you park! Joyce, Charlie's sister-in-law, is in ICU with a head injury. She fell a few days ago and was moved to Strong for higher level of care. She has one sone local and the other son and grand-daughter drove in from Texas. While we were there Charlie's Aunt and Uncle were there too. It was nice to see them both. We continue to hold Kenny, Joyce and the family in our prayers.

It was a clear and cool Saturday morning on July 27th for my 209th walk of 2024. It was a very brisk 45° at 7 AM! It was a sweatshirt morning. Donny met me with 9/10 of a mile to go.

We did some grocery shopping and did a little driving in the country.

Donny & Donna had tickets to the American Legion "His & Her Money Raffle". So we went along and purchased tickets and enjoyed seeing people we have not seen in a while.

Charlie enjoyed an adult beverage or two and we had a BBQ chicken dinner that was delicious.

We took a chance or two or three on the individual raffles. We had to wait to the end of the event to have those tickets pulled. None of us were lucky in the "big money" draws. But Donna's sister in law won a Barbie doll for her granddaughter and Donna won an oil change and a gist certificate to a local restaurant in Arkport.

It was a h
azy and 50° on Sunday morning the 28th of July. It was my 210th walk of 2024. It was the perfect morning to talk to God and reflect on all my successes on my journey of change. I know I am in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing.

Donna used her gift certificate that she won at the raffle yesterday and treated us to breakfast at The Village Cafe in Arkport.

Village Cafe is a cozy eatery nestled in the heart of Arkport, NY, offering a variety of freshly prepared dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

It's a family run business with plenty of staff who were friendly, accommodating and helpful.

Donny & Charlie had biscuits and sausage gravy. Donna had a breakfast sandwich and I had a veggie omelet. Naturally, the portions are huge, so half of it came home with me!

Cool and 55° on Monday July 29th it was my 211th walk of 2024. It was the perfect morning to reflect on all my successes on my journey of change. I know I am in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing.

The sights of farm life, never get old. I snapped this picture as I walked past a field of rolled straw. It was not until I got home, did I realize how nice the picture captured the colors from the yellows, to the greens and the blue sky!

This afternoon, we visited Charlie's friend from his you, Ronnie. We reconnected with Ronnie and his girlfriend, Julie, in Florida. They live not far from Donnie. So the four of us drove over to see them! It's a small world, because Ronnie is a cousin to my sister-in-law, Donna.

Tomorrow, Tuesday July 30th, we move to Ontario County Park on Gannett Hill. Stay tuned for more #TwoLaneAdventures
