Day Four - A Summer of Bluegrass, Camping and Friends - Wednesday 5/1/2024

When I first woke up, the fog was thick! It did not dissipate quickly, in fact we thought we might have to postpone our departure.

Before we departed Jackson County Park, I took my morning walk and found the beautiful flower garden walking trail! The path covers about an 8th of a mile.

The walking trail  is beautifully landscaped by volunteers who have planted a variety of plants along the way in such a pattern that there is nearly always something blooming for you to enjoy.

The beauty of the walking trail spans all seasons, and the flowers and plants lend interest and enjoyment to the time you spend there.

We took Hwy 431 and skirted Huntsville Alabama and headed straight north. We made our first rest / fuel stop at Wal-Mart and Murphy USA in Fayetteville Tennessee.

We are driving through "middle" Tennessee and into Lewisburg. The town of Lewisburg dates back to the early 1800s, named for frontier explorer Meriwether Lewis of the famed duo Lewis and Clark. Until the early 1900s, this was a trading and shipping center for livestock and farm goods produced there. Today, it's known as the home to the World Headquarters of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders' & Exhibitors' Association.

We passed by Rock Creek Park in Lewisburg. It's host to one of Tennessee's most unique festivals: Goats, Music & More held each October. This celebration features the "fainting" goat, an unusual breed brought to the area by a settler in the mid-1800s. Due to a rare genetic (and painless) condition, the goats become stiff, lose their balance and often fall over when startled. The breed nearly faced extinction in the 1980s, but today the quirky goats are thriving worldwide, thanks to places like Lewisburg that celebrate their novelty.

To the delight of some of our caravanners, we exited our two lane adventure when Hwy 431 intersected with Interstate 840. We followed I-840 to I-40. Then we went bump, bump, bump down Interstate 40. Until we reached Hwy 13 and the exit for Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

Hwy 13 took us north again to the town of Hurricane Mills, the home of Loretta Lynn. We are staying at her ranch campground for 4 nights to enjoy the Tennessee State Good Sam rally.

Stay tuned as we move along our #TwoLaneAdventures
